93年「ROOTS,REALITY&CULTURE」でレゲエシンガーとしてメジャー・デビュー。
徹底したダンス・ホール・スタイルのレゲエで人気を集め、「My Xperience」「Next Millennium」などでは米国のラッパーと共演し、ストリートの感性と融合したヒップ・ホップ・レゲエを展開。ロック・バンドNo Doubtとのコラボレーション「Hey Baby」も大ヒットを記録した。99年頃からは再び王道のダンス・ホール・トラックに回帰。ジャマイカ・シーンで多大な影響力を誇るアーティストとして君臨している。
1952年6月12日
キングストンの悪名高きトレンチ・タウンで生まれたRodney Pryceはシーヴュー・ガーデンズ、その後リヴァートン・シティーに移り住んだ。父はBlack Scorpioの サウンドシステムを所有して運営しており、彼は10代前半にサウンドシステムのディージェイとして活動を始めた。
ゲットーエリアでの生活は想像以上に困難で、14歳にして彼はライヴァルの政治的な殺し屋との撃ち合いに巻き込まれ、流れ弾の餌食になった。病院で治療を受けていた時に、“Bounty Killer”という名でマイクを握る決意をする。サウンドJah LoveのBrigadier JerryとU-Royが所有するサウンドSturgavのRanking Joeなどのディージェイに影響を受けた。
Stereo TwoやMetro Mediaでマイクの番が彼に回ってくるようになり、ディージェイの1人、また彼のいとこでもあるJohn Wayneによりレコーディングを薦められる。
1992年
Bounty Hunterの名でLloyd Jamesの兄弟である Trevor Jamesの下でレコーディング・デビューを飾った。「Gun Must Done」は彼のその後を築く基盤となり、Lloyd Jamesの息子であるLloyd James Juniorと共に「Spy Fi Die」で初めての大ヒットを飛ばす。
多くの同世代のアーティストたちとは異なり、彼はレコーディングの相手を選び、セント・ルシア・アヴェニューに位置するKing Jammyのヘッドクォーターに留まり、Uncle-TやJohn JohnなどのKing Jammyの家族に「Action Speaks Louder Than Words」「Down In The Ghetto」「Jamaica’s Most Wanted」、そしてKing jammy自身には「Book, Book, Book」などのヒット曲を多く残した。
King Jammyの元に残したアルバム「Down In The Ghetto」「Jamaica’s Most Wanted」と「No Argument」はロンドンのGreensleeves Recordsからリリースされ、彼の名前と音楽はジャマイカとイギリスで同時に知られていった。
彼のリリックは暴力を強くとがめたが、その一方で彼はキングストンの悪名高き好戦的なゲットーの中で日々、生と死の間を綱渡りした。
「Down In The Ghetto」では、King jammyがアレンジしたBaba Brooksのスカの名曲「Shank I Sheck」に乗せて、銃と薬物がキングストンのダウンタウンのゲットーに押し寄せてくるのは堕落した政治家のせいだであると非難。ゲットーの受難者の状況を語る、あるいは理解できるアーティストは少なかったが、彼は1歩踏み込み、罪を犯した者たちを名指しした。Uncle-Tの元に残した、自身の母親を称えた感動的な賛美歌、「Miss Ivy Last Son」は彼の優しさを更に強調した。
1993年
「people dead」のキャッチ・フレーズをめぐってBeenie Manとの戦いが勃発し、ポートモアで12月26日に行われたStingで激突。その後も対立関係は続き、ビーフを繰り返す。
1995年
ラジオ・ディージェイのRichard Burgessが中を取り持ち、彼とBeenie ManをRJRのスタジオに招き、彼らはマイクを取り”この戦いは業界に悪い影響を及ぼす”と言及し、休戦となった。
自身のレーベルPricelessとScare Demプロダクションを立ち上げる。
「East Indian」「Go Now」「’Who Create The World (Take Me Home)」、Troubleとの「Killer Sound」などのヒット曲が続いた。
1996年
アルバム「My Xperience」はニューヨークのVPからリリースされ、アメリカでの人気を確立した。Billboardのレゲエ・チャートでは6ヶ月間チャート入りし、全世界で30万枚を売り上げたと言われている。
その夏、Fugeesの世界的ヒット「Killing Me Softly With His Song」のHOT 97 FMヒップ・ホップ・リミックスにフィーチャーされた。クロスオーヴァーのヒットメーカーの多くとは異なり、彼は自身のゲットーのルーツに忠実でありながら、同時に世界のオーディエンスたちの共感を得ることに成功した。

1997年
彼はジャマイカ・ダンス・ホールのシーンで頂点を狙うユーツたちの理想であり、King jammyの元でレコーディングを続ける一方、「Go Away」で共演したAngel Doolasなど、若手の注目アーティストたちを集めたグループAllianceを設立した。
Busy Signal、Elephant Man、Mavado、Wayne Marshallらの人気上昇中のスターたちを集め、AllianceはStingやReggae Sumfestなどの大規模なステージショーでジャマイカのオーディエンスたちを魅了した。
1998年
“Champions In Action”で見せた人目を惹きつけるパフォーマンスをVybz Kartelに買われAllianceに加入。Vybz Kartel はBounty Killerヒット曲「High Grade Forever」「Warlord Rule The World」などの様々な楽曲の作詞するようになった。
新しい世紀を迎え、彼はますます素晴らしいキャリアを歩み、アメリカのHot One Hundredの第5位まで上り詰めたNo Doubtとのコラボレーション「Hey Baby」や2001年にグラミー賞候補にもなったアルバム「Ghetto Dictionary Volume Two: Mystery」を録音。
2006年
VPレコーズを通してコンピレーション・アルバム「Nah No mercy – The Warload Scroll」をリリース。
2008年
2001年、Beenie Manと意見の不一致が白熱したこと、パフォーマンス中に罰当たりな言葉を使ったとしてReggae Sumfestで2度目の逮捕をされた。
同年、Elephant Man、Busy Sgnalと来日公演(The Back Door-ラバダブツアー)
2012年
Miss Ivyの愛称で親しまれた母を亡くす。1996年のシングル楽曲「Miss Ivy Last Son」で‘Miss Ivy’と言及するほど、彼と彼の母親は2人のとても近い絆を示してきた。
2019年
Jamaica Peegasus Hotelで開催されたInter National Reggae And World Music Awards(IRAWMA)でReggae Dancehall Icon特別賞を受賞。
ことがあるように、彼はしばしば法、または秩序と対立してきたが、そのプレッシャーに根を上げる素振りは見せたことも無い。
16歳で銃弾を受け命を救ってくれた Kingston Public Hospitalだけでなく様々な病院等に寄付を行う・
